Fifteen years ago, five ordinary teenagers were singled out by a prophecy to take down an impossibly powerful entity wreaking havoc across North America. He was known as the Dark One, and his weapon of choice - catastrophic events known as Drains - leveled cities and claimed thousands of lives.

The Chosen Ones, as the teens were known, gave everything they had to defeat him. After the Dark One fell, the world went back to normal . . . for everyone but them. After all, what do you do when you're the most famous people on Earth, your only education was in magical destruction, and your purpose in life is now fulfilled? Of all the five, Sloane has had the hardest time adjusting. Everyone else blames the PTSD - and her huge attitude problem - but really, she's hiding secrets from everyone . . . secrets that keep her tied to the past and alienate her from the only four people in the world who understand her.

On the tenth anniversary of the Dark One's defeat, something unthinkable happens: one of the Chosen Ones dies. When the others gather for the funeral, they discover the Dark One's ultimate goal was much bigger than they, the government, or even prophecy could have foretold - bigger than the world itself.

Interesting

This fantasy novel takes place 10 years after this big event of them defeating the Dark One in their world. Now they need to gather again to deal with something further. It was mind boggling to read about parallel universe and magic world. Unexpected fantasy plot and if you love Divergent you will definitely love this novel from the same author.

A PTSD story

Pretty interesting story where its about life of the Chosen Ones after 10 years saving the world from the Dark One, dealing with their PTSD.
However the story pace is slow and take some times to finish it.

Magical Book About Parallel Worlds

Ten years ago five young people were identified as the Chosen Ones and were sent on a mission to destroy a evil force they called The Dark One. Their mission was successful and the world was saved from extermination. Matt, Esther and Ines have been able to get on with a normal life but Sloane and Albie are finding it hard to forget the horror and destruction and suffer from the effects of this. Unfortunately on the day they celebrate the tenth anniversary of their victory Sloane has a premonition that bad things are about to happen again.

Great book

This book is centered around the character Sloane and her experience after being one of the "Chosen Ones" who defeated the Dark One. It took a couple of chapters to get an understanding of their world, but you are left with many questions that you have to keep reading to get the answers to. I love how the book has news articles or memos intertwined with the chapters so you can read other perspectives outside of Sloane's.

Sloane is a fierce female character much like other YA novels, but her world and story are unique and complex. There are surprising turns in every chapter. If you enjoy books such as Divergent, Harry Potter, or The Hunger Games, I would highly recommend this book. I think maybe the best thing about it for me is that it is a stand-alone novel, no waiting for the next book to come out so you can finish the story!
