Echoes of Life: Sungai Pulai and Beyond
ECHOES OF LIFE showcases the rich biodiversity of the Sungai Pulai Mangroves, Merambong Island and the Merambong Seagrass Meadow. The three habitats each has its own unique bio-assemblages and each is represented by a group of common organisms. These locations sited in the southwest of Johor state are relatively not well studied for their floral and faunal contents. This is the first attempt at documenting the terrestrial and marine lives of the three distinct areas as well as the activities of Man, including the Sea Gypsies who have settled along Sungai Pulai since time immemorial. Fully illustrated with full-coloured photographs of the rare, the common and the unusual, this coffee-table tome, a labour of love of the Johor branch of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), is written in plain language to appeal to everyone, especially those who are new to the little-known mangroves or the mysterious island of Merambong that is connected under the Straits of Johor to the Merambong Seagrass Meadow.
