Light romance, no sorted details. Safe over 16.This book put me well past me bedtime a couple times because I needed to finish it. There is a young woman in her late teens who has tragedy take ahold of her family. She is a master of her craft (all things tailoring), but lives in a time and place where women assist or marry, they don't hold titles or honorable positions. As you can guess she goes undercover to save her family's legacy and bring prosperity to their broken home. Add in a enchanter (wizard/magician) who is older than he looks and has a bit of an attitude. Then comes the questions, why does he look at her like he knows, why does the Emperor have him so close all the time, and why does the emperor's bride to be hate everything and everyone around her? Follow Maia as she works her way through the Chinese cultural environment to make herself and her family proud without losing her head, literally. Then cliffhanger that Miss Kim has left this book on does fulfill the need to hope for the futures characters, but this is a complete book. The main story is answered and feels completed. The next books should only grow off of this one instead of being required to feel story and character progression unlike many others that don't. I am moving in to the next.
