While I was at first confused by how meandering the book came off when I read it, I was able to appreciate the story more when I realized that the plot takes a backseat to exploration of the gods that have settled in America from around the world. Reading this like a collection of short stories really made me appreciate it more and enjoy the cleverness of each god's story and made me wish I could go on an American road trip to all the places mentioned in the book just to see if the gods are still there. A meandering but ultimately satisfying read.
This book is meandering, in such a way that you can feel yourself getting lost. But, in Gaiman fashion, he has a way of tying everything up in the end (or not in some cases) in a way that was satisfying for me.
If you don't mind a character focused story with a lot of detours and LOVE mythology, you'll eat this up.
This content of this book is quite heavy yet if you really understand the storyline, you will surely appreciate the beauty of it. Who did ever wonder that god could live among human and has their own background story. It is perfectly blend with ancient history, thriller, romance and also adventures. No wonder why the TV series was so popular. Highly recommended for all!
