Economic Reform in Malaysia: The Contribution of Najibnomics

When Najib Razak became Prime Minister of Malaysia in April 2009 he was immediately faced with a crisis. A precipitous decline in exports in the wake of the global financial crisis had left the economy teetering on recession, while efforts to release the country from the fiscal straitjacket imposed by heavy fuel and other subsidies inherited from previous administrations had produced a surge in inflation.
