This was a very good book about the professional life of a leading cardiac surgeon, but could have been even better if the stories had been integrated with his personal life and his views on the practice of medicine today.
Fragile Lives is a fascinating look into an area of surgery where the stakes are very high and everything must be done very precisely. It was a really really interesting read, and I highly recommend it.
Professor Stephen Westaby writes so well, and with a sense of humour. In this fascinating and moving book he takes us from his childhood days through to some of the most complex operations, whilst always explaining things in a way that any non-medical person can understand. This book will make a reader both laugh and cry. It will touch one's heart. Anyone who does not read this book will really be missing out on a great read.

This medical autobiography was both fascinating and helpful. This was a well-written and fascinating book. There were several touching moments as well as some significant points.
