As a practising mortician, Caitlin Doughty has long been fascinated by our pervasive terror of dead bodies. In From Here to Eternity she sets out in search of cultures unburdened by such fears. With curiosity and morbid humour, Doughty introduces us to inspiring death-care innovators, participates in powerful death practices almost entirely unknown in the West and explores new spaces for mourning - including a futuristic glowing-Buddha columbarium in Japan, a candlelit Mexican cemetery, and America's only open-air pyre. In doing so she expands our sense of what it means to treat the dead with 'dignity' and reveals unexpected possibilities for our own death rituals.

From Here To Eternity

We know that spirituality and culture impact our ability to adapt and thrive. Doughty brilliantly asks whether our death practices are at all meaningful. This will open your eyes and your mind on how to dispose of human remains. Other cultures have adapted processes which have had to deal with issues of burial space and adapting archaic rituals into new social norms. This book so informative and enlightening. Thank you Caitlin for undertaking these long journeys and adventures to bring us the personal stories and rituals practiced all around the world in our quest for the "good death"! A quick read that will open your mind. Highly recommend anything written by this author.

journey about death and grief

this book explored a variety and different death of non traditional burial rituals that around the world that we not familiar with and it was pretty interesting. even though this book deal with the topic of grief, it was not creepy, but rather try to normalize the topic, taking out the fear that tends to surround dead bodies.
