Con is consumed by anger since his dad left. He yearns to be the good person he knows he can be – to play FIFA with his best friend Kyron, to make his mum proud, and to ignore the hurtful words about his dad. But rage always wins, and now even Kyron is afraid. When Con gets suspended from school, he feels like he’s failed everyone. The good person he longs to be seems out of reach.
Then, his neighbor, Mr. Williams, shares a secret.
On the roof of their building, Mr. Williams keeps homing pigeons, with feathers the colors of pearls and storm clouds. These birds carry messages to other towns and always find their way back home. Mr. Williams asks for Con’s help caring for them, and Con is shocked. How could he, of all people, be trusted with such delicate creatures? But slowly, Con starts to believe in himself.
When Mr. Williams goes away, Con is left in charge. He begins to wonder if the pigeons could bring home more than just messages. Maybe, just maybe, they could find his dad.
