From the multi-million copy bestselling author of Thinking Fast and Slow Daniel Kahneman, the co-author of the million-copy bestseller Nudge Cass Sunstein, and the eminent professor and writer on strategic thinking Olivier Sibony, a new book about how to make better decisions.
We make thousands of decisions every day, from minute choices we don’t even know we’re making up to great, agonising deliberations. But when every decision we make is life-changing, the way we reach them matters. And for every decision, there is noise.
This book teaches us how to understand all the extraneous factors that impact and bias our decision-making – and how to combat them and improve our thinking. Filled with new science, fascinating case studies and revealing practical examples, the skills this book teaches can be readily used by private or public institutions, by schools, hospitals, businesses, judges and in our everyday lives.
This book was great! Highly recommend for anyone looking for an insight into the human mind.
This book explains why one problem with same variable can have different solutions. Every person has their own bias in making their judgement, and sometimes it contains unwanted factors that can affect in making decision; this is what is called 'noisy systems'.
In this book, the author explains the details of unwanted variation, including its causes and components, how to measure it, and the interplay between noise and bias. Then, they list several methods on how to reduce the noise or the unwanted variation during decision-making stage.
Overall, this book is a good reference for us to improve our decision-making skills.
The realisations and teachings in this book were amazing. Leaders and decision-makers will find it particularly valuable.
This book is very exciting. Because the description of noise is very in-depth, it is the main factor in our decision on success or failure. We always will be someone else's prejudice and criticism, altering the original object and purpose. The author teaches us to recognize choices and self-definition so that we can make accurate and complete decisions or policies.
