ZeeBee is obsessed with the island's history as a Prohibition-era smuggling route. She's also convinced that her beloved dog, Barney, was murdered-something Keenan finds pretty hard to believe.
Just about everyone on Centerlight is a suspect, because everyone hated Barney, a huge dog-part mastiff, part rottweiler-notorious for terrorizing the community. Accompanied by a mild-mannered new dog who is practically Barney's opposite, ZeeBee enlists Keenan's help to solve the mystery.
This was a fun entertaining read that is set in present day with a sprinkling of historical mystery. Things aren't as they appear on Keenan has temporarily moved to Centerlight Island, where half the island is Canadian and the other half are Americans. He recovering for illness and he meets on of the Canadian residents, Zarabeth aka ZeeBee. Zeebee loves share the history of the island, which was a hotspot of gangster hideouts during Prohibition. Keenan isn't always sure where the truth of the history ends and the embellishment of ZeeBee's history begins.
After some misunderstandings, Keenan finds a present day mystery on Centerlight Island. Did ZeeBee's beloved dog, Barney die naturally or was he poisoned. The mystery and characters engage the reader to keep reading to find out the answers to the mysteries of Centerlight Island.
