Despite significant recent progress, there is still one major issue facing the pharmaceutical industry that dwarfs all others -- the price of drugs, which is a unifying factor on both partisan sides in US politics. The pharmaceutical industry shouldn't be surprised by the backlash given that the media is routinely filled with high drug pricing stories: life-saving gene therapies priced at over $2 million per patient, busloads of Americans heading over the border to Canada to get insulin for their diabetes, Pfizer and Moderna justifying billions of dollars in revenues for new COVID-19 mRNA vaccines.
