'A magical tale of a troubled family'
Daily Telegraph

Delhi, 1997. India's fiftieth year of independence brings political turmoil, but twelve-year-old Adi has bigger problems: his Ma is missing - again. Left with an ailing grandmother, a raging father and no answers, he finds an unlikely ally: an officer from the Department of Historical Adjustment.

The Department grants Adi access to his family's files - including his Ma's memories - transporting him on a journey to uncover the secrets that might finally explain the present. But first, he must prove he's ready to face the past.

'A moving story about the past and the shadow it forever leaves on the present'
Huma Qureshi, author of Playing Games

'Sublime . . . A fantastic debut from a promising new literary voice'
Nick Bradley, author of Four Seasons in Japan
