Chloe Wang is nervous to introduce her parents to her boyfriend, because the truth is, she hasn't met him yet either. She hired him from Rent for Your 'Rents, a company specializing in providing fake boyfriends trained to impress even the most traditional Asian parents.

Drew Chan's passion is art, but after his parents cut him off for dropping out of college to pursue his dreams, he became a Rent for Your 'Rents employee to keep a roof over his head. Luckily, learning protocols like "Type C parents prefer quiet, kind, zero-PDA gestures" comes naturally to him.

When Chloe rents Drew, the mission is simple: convince her parents fake Drew is worthy of their approval so they'll stop pressuring her to accept a proposal from Hongbo, the wealthiest (and slimiest) young bachelor in their tight-knit Asian American community.

But when Chloe starts to fall for the real Drew-who, unlike his fake persona, is definitely not 'rent-worthy-her carefully curated life begins to unravel. Can she figure out what she wants before she loses everything?

Rent

This was a cute romance that handled some pretty heavy topics. Chloe decides to hire a fake boyfriend to take home to her parents so she can get out of an arranged marriage with a horrible guy her parents have set her up with. Chloe and Andrew start actually falling for each other as they pretend for her parents and Chloe has to navigate her identity with her parents and what kind of person she wants to be.

Typical Asian Parents

This is definitely a light read & I enjoyed the storyline. The story follows the life of Chloe (Jing) Wang, a 19 year old with typical Asian parents, match making her with a disgusting being called Hongbo Kuo. Blergh, just remembering his character makes me feel like vomiting. She wanted to escape from Hongbo without hurting her VERY judgemental parents by renting a boyfriend, Drew Chan, whom she eventually fell in love with.

As an Asian myself, I could somehow connect with Chloe. The expectation of Asian parents, feeling like you could never be yourself in front of your family & relatives, the constant beating yourself up moment & feeling like you will never be good enough. I feel like giving her a hug every time she chose her parents over herself. It's inspiring & sad at the same time.

I love the character development in this story. Definitely would recommend if you want a light read.

contemporary romance

the book is about fake dating relationship, the boyfriend may be fake at first but the feels are all real. absolutely a must read for fans of the fake dating trope or anyone who appreciates a love story that's not only about finding your person, but finding yourself. the book had me alternately laughing out loud and crying into my tea. pretty much perfection.
