Iris Smythe-Smith is used to being underestimated. With her pale hair and quiet, sly wit she tends to blend into the background, and she likes it that way. So when Richard Kenworthy demands an introduction, she is suspicious. He flirts, he charms, he gives every impression of a man falling in love, but she can't quite believe it's all true. When when he proposes, she feels certain that he's hiding something . . . even as her heart tells her to say yes.
I like Julia Quinn. Her stories are both romantic and witty. Light storyline and pace. Really good to read to relief some stress.
What I will say is that it is rare to find an author who can combine excellent writing, empathy of the era they have taken pen to paper to entertain and an uncanny comedic genius which gave this reader a good half an hour with tears streaming down my face and aching sides from laughing so much.
The story is beautifully handled and written. There was anger, and heartbreak and tears.
Well written, as always, great plot and characters . It was humorous and romantically lovely, and it was a joy to read!
Well, color me impressed. I have read so many books in a lifetime that I'm not usually easily shocked when it comes to a story plot but Julia Quinn is definitely someone you shouldn't take for granted.
And...
Excuse me for sounding so smug, but it's so hard not to gloat when you are in possession of an entertaining book. The Smythe-Smith series is an absolute delight and the characters are adorable.
