Shaping Maths (3rd Edition) is an instructional package written according to the 2013 Ministry of Education Singapore primary mathematics syllabus. A thematic approach is adopted in the lower primary levels to reflect various aspects of pupils’ lives and help provide a concrete framework for the mathematical concepts that pupils learn in class. Pupils’ learning is then reinforced through the use of pictures and icons before they are introduced to the formal symbolic mode of mathematical representation. The introduction of new features further equips teachers with various strategies to address teaching and learning needs. These features include hands-on activities, pair/group work and open-ended questions to encourage exploration and in-depth thinking among pupils. This will equip pupils well for the challenges of the 21st century.
Shaping Maths (3rd Edition) Teacher’s Planning Guides are rich resources of ideas and strategies that help teachers to plan for maths lessons, and guides them in successful lesson execution, enabling teachers to become effective facilitators in pupils’ learning of maths. With content that is anchored by the blended learning framework, the Teacher’s Planning Guide enables teachers to seamlessly integrate the requirements of the new syllabus with mathematical concepts and processes using the latest tools of technology. The result is an enhanced learning experience for pupils.
