What have the invention of the wheel, Pompeii, the Wall Street Crash, Harry Potter and the internet got in common? Why are all forecasters con-artists? What can Catherine the Great's lovers tell us about probability? Why should you never run for a train or read a newspaper? This title deals with this questions.
The Black Swan changed my view of how the world works
We don't know what we don't know. Pretending that we do can cause all kinds of harm.
Taleb takes those basic ideas and spins them out in many, many directions. For me, despite his self-satisfaction and tendancy towards being insufferable, I enjoyed the writing. More, I like the ideas. They are ideas that seem simple, but are very easy to forget or willfully ignore. Recommends it for: fans of Richard Dawkins, James Gleick, and Malcolm Gladwell
Very interesting book. Can change your own finance and also business.
This book tells you how to sustain yourself in the absence of worldly support, how to stand up to others and say your piece, how to wait and be patient, and about the merits of surrounding yourself with like-minded souls.
The subject of the book is quite heavy I would say. Not a common concept that we see out here. Nevertheless, it can be understand even if we do not have background in philosophy. Highly interesting subject of discussion but you will be easily trailing off if not focus.
