The Melancholy Lens is a study of the films and videos of five major figures of The American Avant-Garde Cinema. Unlike other books on these artists, the approach here is to examine in detail the form, structure, and imagery of each work in terms of howthese reflect, directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously, aspects of each artist's personality.
