The Strength In Our Scars is a full-length debut book by Singaporean author, Liyana Musfirah. In this book, the author explores the concept of Spiritual Resilience, in which readers are enlightened on how Spiritual Resilience take form in their daily life.
Every person goes through personal milestones in their life and each stage, they face different struggles be it doubt on self worth, relationship issues, or conflicts concerning the faith. Often, they do not know how to endure and overcome these struggles, in a way that can empower their heart yet strengthen their soul. Most of the time, people are told to be passively patient and just endure the struggles submissively.
Through 8 stories, author Liyana Musfirah acknowledges the personal struggles that all of us go through but brings forth a sociological and spiritual perspective on how we can persevere when going through hardships and adversity.
Each story is anchored by the theme, ‘resilience’ and the author reveals that to overcome these hardships, the one tool we have to emerge from any adversity is actually within us all along, which is our faith and our resilience that is left dormant all this while. This is the book that celebrates what God has given women, the resilience to withstand emotional struggles (the likes of the mother of Prophet Musa, Maryam AS, Asiyah RA)
The Spiritual Strength in Our Scars can be a beginning for us to acknowledge that we have pain. Through that pain, we learn not to inflict further pain to us and our future. Spiritual strength can strengthen us, and each scar is a testament that we have overcome the hardship we thought would break us.

When I read through the contents, I raised an eyebrow and thought I could only relate to a few. I'm not a mother, i'm not a divorced, I just got out of a bad relationship... How can I relate?
But as I go on, I find myself to ask questions. To evaluate my actions. My memories. My deep down pain that I never told anyone.
I also understand more the struggles my friends, my aunts, my sisters and my mother went through.
I guess I was in a lot of denial and the book broke me. Thank you for the book Ustazah Liyana.
