Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she drifts from place to place with her mother's rock band until an ominous attack forces them back to Kaye's childhood home. But Kaye's life takes another turn when she stumbles upon an injured faerie knight in the woods. Kaye has always been able to see faeries where others could not, and she chooses to save the strange young man instead of leaving him to die.
But this fateful choice will have more dire consequences than she could ever predict, as Kaye soon finds herself the unwilling pawn in an ancient and violent power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms--a struggle that could very well mean her death.
Wouldn't you love to be a faerie? Tell me, doesn't the idea of a teensie little, beautiful, winged, creature just fascinate you? It's not all beauty and flowers and rainbows though. There's a whole world we know nothing about, and niether did Kaye. You see, Kaye was born and traded at birth with a human child. Kaye is a pixie faerie. (There are many different types.) She has been raised as a human all this time and not even her mother or grandmother knew the truth. As a child, Kaye would always have faeries come to visit her to talk and play. She would tell her mother and friends but nobody believed her. As she got older, they stopped showing themselves but still watched over her. Late one night after an arguement with a friend, she runs into a very handsome knight in dispair. Kaye, being the nice girl, helps and in return, the knight shares his name with her. Roiben happens to be a 'dangerous' faerie. He's in The Unseelie Court and even though Kaye doesn't know it, her friends belong to the Seelie court. She's warned from her faerie friends to stay away from him. He's dangerous and evil. He's the best knight the Unseelie Court has! But Kaye is fascinated by him, he even finds her himself and tells her to stay away. But against their better judgement, she brings her human friend Corny, along for the ride to capture Roibens heart. When the truth is, Roiben told her to stay away because he knew she was different, and felt that. He knew there was something there too.
Tithe is a good choice if you are looking for a short urban fantasy.
