Are you as authentically happy as your social media profiles make it seem? When a group of researchers asked young adults around the globe what their number one priority was in life, the top answer was happiness. Not success, fame, money, looks, or love...but happiness. For a rising generation of young adults raised as digital natives in a fast-paced, ultra-connected world, authentic happiness still seems just out of reach. While social media often shows well-lit selfies and flawless digital personas, today's 16- to 25-year-olds are struggling to find real meaning, connection, and satisfaction right alongside their overburdened parents. An Introduction to Happiness tackles the ever-popular subject of happiness and well-being, but reframes it for a younger reader struggling with Instagram envy and high-stakes testing, college rejections and helicopter parents. Professor of positive psychology Dr. Tim Bono distills his most popular college course on the science of happiness into creative, often counterintuitive, strategies for young adults to lead happier, more fulfilling lives.
Filled with exciting research, practical exercises, honest advice, and quotes and stories from young adults themselves, An Introduction to Happiness is a master class for a generation looking for science-based, real world ways to feel just a little bit happier every day.
This book is a wonderful addition to the books written on positive psychology, and a must read for anyone wanting to understand what it truly takes to experience lasting well-being. In our fast paced, electronically driven culture of likes and clicks, Tim Bono debunks our pop culture myths about happiness and instead, illustrates that happiness is a skill that can be cultivated through specific behaviors that we engage in, through our mindset, and through where we choose to put our attention. With clear and easy to read language, his book is filled with research from scientific studies on happiness, and interspersed with writings from his students, that all make for very interesting reading. Perhaps most importantly, he translates this research into concrete, small actions that we can all take in our lives to bring about powerful change.
This book was great. It was easy to read and has a lot of good information and helpful tips for living a more productive and happy life in this age of social media and new technology. Would definitely recommend everyone read this, especially if you're looking to cheer yourself up or to be even happier than you already might be!
This book is targeted largely towards college age students, and offers practical tips to implement into daily life to increase appreciation of the present moment and build happiness.
Think smart and make you genius. Good book and worth buying.
