From attorney to tween book writer, what a transition!
Rachel Renée Russell, author of the New York Times bestselling Dork Diaries series, was inspired by her daughters’ stories from middle school. Rachel admits that she loves to write children’s books more than being in court because books can give her joy. Her daughter, Nikki, is the illustrator of the series, which has been translated into 42 languages and has sold 45 million copies around the world. The teenaged protagonist, Nikki Maxwell, is named after her.
Rachel, who wrote 15 books for the series, reminds the reader: “Let your inner dork shine through.”
