Once Upon A Time in Bursa, a new title by Acepremier reveals the unique opportunities, nuances and risk of investing in Bursa along with how retail investors can apply fundamental investing specifically to Malaysian companies. You will see the stocks through the lens of real stories and learn to appreciate the companies behind each stock.

Why do most retail investors lose money in the stock market? Is the stock market rigged against them? What is the best way to invest in stocks? Behind every stock is a company which has an underlying value. Buying and owning good stocks over a sustained period of time is possibly the single best way to build wealth. Most investment advice is geared towards the US or foreign markets and do not delve into the specifics of investing in the local context of Bursa. This book reveals the unique opportunities, nuances and risk of investing in Bursa along with how retail investors can apply fundamental investing specifically to Malaysian companies. You will see the stocks through the lens of real stories and learn to appreciate the companies behind each stock. Hann, a corporate strategist, lawyer and avid fundamental investor, shares with you his personal investment experiences that have helped him navigate Bursa. He takes you on a fulfilling journey of investment tales where you will gain insights on the simple logics of investing. You will also learn how to apply the practical MONEY equation which he hopes, may tip the balance ever so slightly in favour of ordinary retail investors.

This is not a textbook repeating the financial ratios which you learnt in business school

This is not a textbook repeating the financial ratios which you learnt in business school.
The book has 207 pages and only 7 pages are about financial ratios. Facts are dead without a context. The author sets the context in Malaysia and tells his stories of investing in Bursa. When the context is relevant (at least it is relevant to me), the financial ratios start to speak to me when I follow the stories.
I saw this author in a webinar hosted by Bursa (*he was the guest speaker) and I sensed his humility when he spoke. Then I found his book staying in MPH Weekly Top 20 Business Bestsellers for quite a long time. When the world has too much fake "gurus" busy showing off their luxury lifestyles, the author focus on sharing his own journey without exaggeration. When I read the book, I smell the humbleness between the lines.
The author is a fundamentalist. You won't turn into the next Warren Buffett after reading this book. However, it is definitely a pleasant journey reading this book. It kept me engaged for quite a long time as I don't easily commit to something unless it is interesting.
