The words are simple but my child can understand the message that it wants to across.
This book is a very age appropriate biography for young children to understand and to gain knowledge about the great Maya Angelou. The illustrations were very colorful and I think that they are a good depiction for children. The illustrations are accurate to the plot and correspond with the text. The characters in the illustrations represent a variety individuals in various cultures. No negative stereotypes were represented, in fact, there was great diversity within the illustrations.
This is an excellent book to give a brief overview of a successful female writer and civil activist to interest a child. The illustrations of Maya's life are really fun and it gives a good summary without going into too much detail. It is a great way to introduce Maya's life too a child and short enough to keep them interested.
