People lived because she killed. People died because he lived.

Nobody knows that Zafira is the Hunter. Forced to disguise herself as a man, she braves the cursed forest to feed her people. If she is exposed as a girl, all of her achievements will be rejected.

Nasir is the infamous Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the sultan. If he refuses he will be punished in the most brutal of ways.

Both are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya - but neither wants to be. And when Zafira embarks on a quest to restore magic to her suffering world, Nasir is sent by the sultan on a similar mission: retrieve magic and kill the hunter. But an ancient evil stirs as their journey unfolds, and the prize they seek may pose a threat greater than either can imagine . .

A rollercoaster of emotions.

If you're a fan of fantasy and the middle eastern culture this book might just be the one for you. I was introduced of the title through bookstagram and I am glad it did. Zafira is a headstrong and selfless female main character that would sacrifice herself for her family, friends and her people. Whilst, Nasir the male main character is a closed off and more reserved person due to his personal life issues.
The both of them hunt for the same object but for completely different reasons. And on their hunt they met, in which Zafira meets more people that are also hunting for the same object. Later on they became a team and worked through to get the item together. One by one each of them realised how important their companionship actually are.
The value of sentiment, trust and perhaps a little love too stands strong in this series. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a little poetic writing as Hafsah Faizal provides exactly that in this title.
However, this book does come with a slightly slow cadence and not action packed as I expected it to be and that would be the reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. But I do love the following book more as things start to get more and more interesting.
